Vacuum cladding of titanium shaft in a welding enclosure
One of the unfortunate properties of titanium is that it reacts rapidly with elements such as oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen at a temperature above 250 ºC. This results in brittle, contaminated welds. The only way to get good titanium welds or overlays is to use a welding enclosure, rinsed with argon. Welding and cooling with complete gas protection.
